
Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Firearms Possession in Maine
A 61-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Prison and $250,000 Fine
Jeffrey Barnard from Millinocket was also fined $250,000 and will have three years of supervised release.
Suspended License
Barnard was arrested in March 2023 after a traffic stop for a suspended license.
Confrontation with Police
“A confrontation ensued” between the officer and Barnard during his apprehension, said the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Another officer and a citizen helped to detain him.
Revolver Found in Jacket
Police found a .22 caliber Ruger in his jacket pocket.
Prior Conviction for Armed Standoff in Maine
Barnard was precluded from having a firearm due to his 2017 conviction related to an armed standoff with police in Ellsworth.
Investigators
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the East Millinocket Police Department.
