Man Hit Officer with Car & Started Physical Altercation in Maine
A 29-year-old man was arrested for aggravated assault Tuesday after crashing into an off duty officer and starting a physical altercation in Norway.
Off Duty Officer hit by Driver
The Maine State Police said “Oxford Police Department Reserve Officer, 31-year-old Joe Correia of Norway, was off duty and outside his vehicle when he was struck by a vehicle on Crockett Ridge Road.”
Physical Altercation after Crash
Michael Carleton from Paris, Maine hit the officer. A physical altercation happened after he hit Correia.
Suspect Charged with Aggravated Assault
Carleton was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault and Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon. He was taken to the Oxford County Jail.
Officer had Surgery for Injuries
Correia was transported to the hospital “where he is having surgery for non-life-threatening injuries,” said Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.
