A snow tire bill in Maine's legislature that became very controversial has been withdrawn.

WGME reports that the bill, which would have required Mainer's to place snow tires on their vehicles each season, has been withdrawn.

According to a spokesman for Democratic Representative David McCrea of Fort Fairfield, made the decision to pull the bill from being considered.

McCrea's goal was to open up a conversation about safe driving practices in the Pine Tree State and, according to his spokesman, McCrea is satisfied that his purpose was accomplished.
