Over the course of several decades of the game show Jeopardy!, clues about Maine have appeared as part of the program many times.

Whether those questions revolve around history, food or Stephen King, Maine has been a topic in some form or fashion on dozens of episodes.

But once in awhile, Jeopardy! throws a clue at contestants that seems so easy to anyone living in Maine but so incredibly difficult for three wildly intelligent people on stage.

And it just happened again.

Jeopardy! Contestants Are Stumped By an Iconic Maine Lighthouse

On the November 20, 2025, episode of Jeopardy!, a category called "Americana" was delivered to contestants during the 'Double Jeopardy!' round.

The $2000 clue was narrated to contestants like this:

First illuminated in 1791, this historic lighthouse is the oldest in Maine and is one of the most photographed in America

One contestant buzzed in quickly with "what is the Nubble"? The remaining two contestants didn't offer up a guess.

Host Ken Jennings then revealed the correct response "Portland Head Light"

There's a Couple of Jeopardy! Champions That Would Have Guessed Correctly

While three contestants not being able to identify one of the most iconic lighthouses in America might seem odd, 2025 has actually been a banner year for Maine on Jeopardy!.
