Everything You Need to Know About The Lunar Eclipse That Will Happen Over Maine Tonight
As a bit of a space geek myself, I always enjoy getting outside to watch celestial events when they happen in the skies over Maine.
In the last year, we have been pretty spoiled with wicked-cool things happening over our heads. We have had a solar eclipse that brought thousands of people to our state and we have seen the northern lights in the most vivid fashion we've seen in many years.
And, even though we're not going to see a solar eclipse this year like we did last, we still have some really cool stuff coming up. According to WGME 13, there will be a lunar eclipse over Maine happening on Thursday night / Friday morning.
The news station goes on to report that even though much of the day is going to be cloud-covered, it is expected that the clouds will clear out enough to be able to get a decent view at tonight's event.
WGME says that for those looking to get the best view of the lunar eclipse, you'll want to head outside between 1:09am and 4:47am tonight/Friday morning. The peak of the eclipse over most of Maine will happen at 2:58am.
When the eclipse reaches 'totality' the moon will likely appear as blood red against the night sky. If you're too tired to get up and venture outside in the middle of the night to catch a glimpse you should know that the next total lunar eclipse isn't going to happen again until March 3rd, 2026.
And, as always, if you get any good pictures of the lunar eclipse tonight, send them our way so we can share them with our audience!
