The University of Maine basketball teams each picked up victories over the Hartford Hawks in America East play on Monday night.

The UMaine men’s side snapped a seven game losing streak and bested the Hawks for their second conference win with a 52-41 victory at the Cross Insurance Center.  The Black Bears women’s basketball team survived a road clash with Hartford and came out on top with a 66-60 win.

Both sides will be back in action on Thursday with the men’s side beginning a three game road trip with UMass Lowell and the women’s team hosting the River Hawks in Bangor.

UMaine Men’s Team 52-41 Hartford Hawks

The Black Bears outscored Hartford 32-20 in the second half to avenge their loss earlier in the season to the Hawks and secured the team’s second conference win.  UMaine was led by the 11 points from Andrew Fleming who also had a team high nine rebounds.  Hartford shot just 21 percent from the floor in the game and Maine only hit one three pointer in the effort.  The Black Bears improve to 6-20 on the year and 2-9 in America East play.  They face the River Hawks on Thursday in an effort to sweep UMass Lowell on the season.

UMaine Women’s Team 66-60 Hartford Hawks

UMaine finally picked up a road win and move their record back to 500 on the year with a victory over Hartford.  The Black Bears had a big third quarter and outscored Hartford by 11 points during that time.  Laia Sole and Julie Brosseau notched 26 combined points off the bench to help lead Maine to the win.  The game featured 12 lead changes before the Black Bears eventually hung on and came out on top.  Maine is now 13-13 and 6-5 in America East play and will return home on Thursday afternoon.
