Legendary Magazine Names Northern Maine Trail System One of the Best in the Country
As anyone who lives in Maine already knows, the state is an outdoor paradise. It doesn't matter what season or region; Maine is a 365-day playground. So it should come as no surprise that one of the state's most popular outdoor activities has been recognized at the very highest of levels.
The legendary periodical Outdoor Magazine is known for being the leader in all things, well, outdoors. If they have written about it or ranked it, then you know it's legit. So when Outside listed its best trails for ATVs (all-terrain vehicles) and UTVs (utility task vehicles), it was looked upon with great respect. This list included the 15 best nationwide, including one right here in Maine.
Maine's own Aroostook County ATV Trails was included as one of the 15 best trail systems for ATVs in the country. At least that's according to Outside Magazine, and probably by anyone who has spent any time on the Northern Maine trails. The system is immensely vast, with over 1,000 miles of action-packed fun. The system includes various terrains like woods, mud, gravel, and plenty of hills. There is no lack of excitement up in these county trails.
Here is a little of what Outside had to say about Aroostook County's trail system.
There are more than a thousand miles of marked ORV trails through Aroostook County, where some of the most rugged mountains in the Northeast tower...Consider using Katahdin Lodge as your base camp and you’ll have direct access to the heart of Aroostook’s trails, where backcountry lakes, waterfalls, and the occasional moose await
That is quite the endorsement from the popular site. It's also yet another example of outsiders realizing how amazing this state truly is.
It should be noted that Maine doesn't limit its amazing trail system to the north. The state boasts over 6,000 miles of ATV and UTV trails, making it easy for any rider to find great trails near them. And with the rise in popularity of side-by-sides, it seems more people than ever are looking to get out and enjoy Maine's trails.
Congrats to Aroostook County on getting the national love. As a Mainer, it's easy to feel a sense of pride when our little state gets recognition, especially when it's well-deserved like this.
Here's a link to the full trail system up in the county. Happy riding, folks. And stay safe out there.
