2014 Biathlon

The 2014 IBU Biathlon Youth/Junior World Championships are underway at the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle. Hundreds of young athletes from all over the world are competing in various Biathlon events over the coming week.

So the population in Presque Isle, Maine has gone up a bit in the last few days. Plus, the language barrier has gotten a bit wider. The 2014 Jr/Youth World Biathlon Championships will descend upon the Star City this weekend. If you happen to drive through the city, or even the side streets for that matter, you'll notice a lot of runners in multi-colored sports gear. These are world-class athletes

It's getting down to the wire now, as the opening ceremonies for the 2014 IBU World Youth / Junior Biathlon Championships will be held Thursday evening in Presque Isle.

Lots of people have been in helping plan and prepare for the upcoming 2014 IBU World Youth / Junior Biathlon Championships, even people that you might not expect. The Aroostook County Emergency Management Agency has actually been helping come up with an emergency plan in case something were to happen at the biathlon, because there is a large number of people that will be at the venue.

After months of planning and preparation, the 2014 IBU World Youth/Junior Biathlon Championships will take center stage at the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle, and event sponsors, the organizing committee, and numerous volunteers have created a jam-packed schedule of competitive and community events to engage visitors, starting with opening ceremonies on Thursday.

Volunteerism plays a key role in being able to actually pull off an event such as the  2014 IBU Youth/Junior Biathlon World Championships that will be kicking off in Presque Isle next week.

With hundreds of athletes from around the world and thousands of spectators expected for the 2014 IBU Youth/Junior Biathlon World Championships, medical services is a key concern.  TAMC and the University of Maine at Presque Isle are teaming up to meet that need.
