The bodies, believed to be a man and woman, were transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta for examination and identification.

In all 11 people lived in the six apartments in the converted farmhouse.  Some of those who escaped said they heard smoke detectors and others did not, said police.

A team of four Fire Marshal investigators responded to the fire scene. The exact cause of the fire will be difficult to determine, as the garage was flattened in the blaze.
