The University of Maine at Fort Kent was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation.

The grant was to purchase four new Automated External Defibrillators (AED) to place throughout campus. These Defibtech Lifeline Semi-Automatic AEDs with Responder Premium AED/CPR packs have been installed in special wall cabinets and are ready for immediate use by campus personnel. The AEDs are equipped with special infant and child resuscitation materials as well as adult-sized pads.

Brian Schaefer, UMFK director of facilities management, said the college already had 2 AEDs in use.  “The existing AEDs were housed in the Sports Center and outside Fox Auditorium as those were the two areas most likely to be utilized by the public, but now we have units in the Armory, Nowland Hall, the Lodge, and outside the Acadian Archives."
