Trooper Nick Casavant responded to the two-vehicle crash at approximately 8:40 a.m. Police say 29-year-old Jessica Shaw of Hodgdon was traveling north in her 2008 Lincoln SUV and had slowed to make a turn into a driveway.

Thirty-six-year-old Daniel Falkenberg of Portland was traveling behind Shaw in a 2017 Ford SUV and did not notice that she had slowed to turn.

Falkenberg attempted to veer around Shaw’s SUV on the right but clipped the back of the vehicle, taking off a rear wheel. His SUV then went off the right side of the roadway and into the ditch.

State Police say Shaw was transported by Houlton Ambulance to Houlton Regional Hospital and was treated and released. Her two-year-old child, who was with her in the vehicle was not injured. Falkenberg did not have any injuries, police said.

Both vehicles had considerable damage and had to be towed from the scene by Westerdahl’s Service.

Trooper Casavant was assisted at the scene by Chief Deputy Shawn Gillen of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office and by the Monticello Fire Department. Route 1 was reduced to one lane for about an hour while the accident scene was investigated and cleared.
