Two Van Buren women were injured late Tuesday night after their car struck a moose in Cyr Plantation.

State police say 26-year-old Melissa Martin of Van Buren was northbound on Route 1 around 11:15 p.m. when a moose crossed the road in front of her car. Martin was unable to stop or avoid the moose and struck it.

Martin and her passenger, 30-year-old Darlene Dias were transported by Van Buren Ambulance to Cary Medical Center in Caribou.

There's no word yet on the extent of the women's injuries, but police said they were considered non-life threatening.

State Trooper Shawn Whalen and Van Buren Police responded to the accident.
