Tiny Town in Maine Named Best for Moose-Watching in America
There are plenty of moose here in Maine, but one particular town has been named the best place for moose-watching in the entire country!

Seeing a moose while you're driving is always exciting—but if that moose decides to step in front of your car, the excitement quickly turns into something much less fun.
With that in mind, we’re a little biased, but how do we determine what makes one location better for moose-watching than another? And who is saying it’s in Maine?
The Travel’s report, ‘These Small Towns in America Have the Most Wild Moose,’ highlights places where moose sightings are more frequent, despite the lack of official moose counts. The methodology emphasizes anecdotal evidence and local knowledge, noting that moose are solitary and elusive, making precise counts challenging.
Alright, so which tiny town in Maine—and we do mean TINY—was recently named the best in America for moose-watching?
According to The Travel and their report, ‘These Small Towns in America Have the Most Wild Moose,’ of the seven towns listed, only one was in Maine. But, at least it was ranked #1! That town is Kokadjo. The Travel shared the following about their top selection:
Kokadjo is the smallest town on this list, with a population of "not many." The real population is between four and six people. But this tiny town located on the eastern side of Moosehead Lake is considered the moose-watching capital of Maine. The North Maine Woods is the best place to see moose in Maine, where moose are said to outnumber people 3 to 1.
So now you know: according to The Travel, the top spot for moose-watching in America is Kokadjo, Maine!
Have you ever been moose-watching in Kokadjo? Does this selection surprise you, or would you have chosen a different top spot? We’d love to hear your thoughts! Feel free to join the conversation by messaging us on the app.
