The United Way of Aroostook presents 'Dolly Parton's Imagination Library'; a free youth education program with the goal of delivering books once a month to Aroostook County children between the ages of Birth to 5-years-old.

The kick-off event is scheduled for the Maine Jump at the Aroostook Centre Mall on Tuesday, October 1st from 3:00pm - 7:00pm; bring your children regardless if they're over the age of 5; the United Way will be assisting those who are interested in signing up.

I spoke with Claudia Stevens, Executive Director of the United Way of Aroostook, about the program and how you can enroll your children:

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is a 60 volume set of books beginning with the children's classic 'The Little Engine That Could.' Each month a new book will be mailed in your child's name directly to your home as a free gift. There is no cost or obligation to your family.

What started out as a pilot program with roughly 160 kids in 6 communities including Fort Kent, Madawaska, and Eagle Lake will now be available for all of Aroostook County.

Preschool children ages birth to 5 who are residents of the Aroostook County area are eligible to receive a book.

All you have to do to be eligible is be a legal resident of Aroostook County, Submit an official registration form, completely filled out by a parent or guardian -- the form must be approved and on file with United Way of Aroostook.

Make sure to notify the United Way of Aroostook any time your address changes. Books are mailed to the address on the registration form.

You'll receive your first book eight to ten weeks after your registration form has been received. Books will arrive at your home address and continue until your child turns 5.
