The weekend events also feature the Heroes Mile at the Caribou Marathon. Organizers said:
They risk their lives to defend our Nation’s freedom. It is our military heroes who make great sacrifices in order to serve and protect. Some heroes make the Ultimate Sacrifice with their lives.
On Sunday, September 15th, Maine's Fallen Heroes, from all wars and conflicts, will be Honored and Remembered at the Heroes Mile as part of the Caribou Marathon. The Heroes Mile will be at mile 9 of the Half and Full Marathon.
Those wishing to be a part of the Heroes Mile can participate by standing beside a Hero, ensuring they are not forgotten; learning about each Hero; or standing with an American Flag.
The Heroes Mile is about being inspired by Heroes & Connecting Communities through unity to continue the Legacies of our Fallen Heroes by Honoring and Remembering.
