Wardens say speed and alcohol were likely factors in a snowmobile accident in Madawaska that seriously injured a Saint David man.

Corporal John MacDonald of the Maine Warden Service says the accident happened around 11:00 Wednesday evening. 57-year-old Luke Beaulieu was riding his Arctic Cat sled off the Gagnon Road in Madawaska when he collided with a tree. Beaulieu sustained serious injuries when he was thrown from the snowmobile.

He was taken to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent, and then transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he remains in critical condition.

Game Wardens say speed and alcohol were likely factors in the crash, and remind riders to slow down and ride within their headlights, at a prudent speed.
