UPDATE:

State Police say Evaristo Deus was taken into custody Wednesday morning at JFK airport in New York City after he boarded a plane bound for Haiti.

Deus was taken into custody by the New York Port Authority about ten minutes before the plane was to depart. He is being held in New York and Maine State Police are making arrangements to send two detectives there to question him and begin the process of returning him to Maine. An arrest warrant was drawn up Wednesday morning by the Maine Attorney General’s Office charging Deus with  the murder  of 32-year-old Laudrinha Kubeloso of Lewiston.

His blue SUV was located in Portland. A campus security guard spotted the vehicle about mid-morning in the parking lot of the University of New England campus.

Deus was the boyfriend of Laudrinha Kubeloso, who was struck by a SUV at the corner of Birch and Howe Streets in Lewiston about 4:30 pm Tuesday. She later died at the hospital. The case is being investigated as a domestic violence death.
