Police received several calls Saturday morning about a man who appeared to be preparing to jump off the Bayview Street overpass of I-295 in Yarmouth.

According to Facebook post from the Yarmouth Police Department, they arrived at the overpass to find a distraught man with one leg over the railing of the overpass. With the help of the Maine State Police, Yarmouth Fire and Rescue and Cumberland Police, they were able to talk him off the railing after about 20 minutes with northbound lands of I-295 shut down for about an hour.

He was then taken into protective custody and will hopefully get the help he needs. A job well done by first responders.
