Roads & Bridges Damaged In Winter Rain Storm Finally Fixed Says Maine DOT
The rain storms of late 2023 and early 2024 left many state roads and bridges completely impassible for days, weeks, and in some cases even months.
About 100 roads and 3 dozen bridges were affected by the massive rain and wind storms that tore through the state in the middle of December.
The Maine Department of Transportation Crews got to work repairing the damage caused by the storms, just as soon as conditions became safe enough to do so. And they were able to make a good number of them passable again within a few days. But smaller storms that followed didn't help the effort and in some cases added to the problem.
However, with consistency and diligence, the work to fix what was destroyed in those storms may finally be coming to an end.
According to the Maine DOT's Facebook Page, crews have finally finished repairing the damage that was done back in December.
"All state roads and bridges that were closed because of the December 18th storm have now been reopened to traffic. The final closure – this bridge in Strong – reopened yesterday afternoon. Thank you to our dedicated team members and contracting partners!"
Following the storms at the end of December, Governor Mills gave a press conference assessing the damage and assuring Mainers that folks in charge of fixing the damage would have full access to whatever state resources they needed to get the job done.
While there are still areas that are under construction, the hope is that at least, even if there's still being work in those areas, they are at least now able to have traffic travel on those roads and bridges.
