Man Shot at Police and Died from Self-Inflicted Gunshot in Maine
A 45-year-old man died from a self-inflicted gunshot after shooting at police in Lewiston on Saturday night.
Suspect was “Actively Firing” Gun
The Lewiston Police Department said Nathan Savage from Auburn was “actively firing” a gun in the area of Essex Street around 11:30 pm.
Man Shot Gun at Police
Savage fired shots at officers when they arrived on the scene. He then fled into the woods. “Officers did not return fire,” said LPD.
Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound
“At about 3:30 am, the suspect was located in the woods, deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A handgun was recovered with the body,” said Lewiston Police.
Ongoing Investigation
HIs body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The investigation is ongoing.
Law Enforcement on the Scene
Assisting on the scene was the Auburn Police Department, Lisbon Police Department, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department, Maine State Police and the Maine State Police Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiators.
