A 35-year-old man was sentenced for Illegally entering the United States after a prior removal.

Sentenced and Facing Deportation

Jose Luis Matute-Duarte, a Honduran national, was given time served (approximately 70 days). He was then taken into custody for immigration proceedings and faces likely deportation, said the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Apprehended Outside Store

Matute-Duarte was apprehended on March 10 outside a Brownsville convenience store. He told Border Patrol Agents he was from New Jersey and had a license from the state.

Illegally in the Country

He initially declined to tell Agents if he was in the country illegally, and later said that he was.

Removed from U.S. in 2015

Matute-Duarte was arrested in 2015 for illegally entering the U.S. in Texas and was removed from the country, according to  Immigration records.
