Lowell Guerrette was working on his property around 4:45 p.m. where he was attempting to fell a large tree, according to Fort Kent Police Chief Tom Pelletier. Guerrette had cut part way through the tree with a chain saw and attached a cable to it from his compact tractor, the police chief said.

In the process of pulling down the tree, Guerrette was thrown from his tractor, striking his head on the tractor’s roll bar. His wife found him lying next to the tractor shortly after the accident, Pelletier said.

Fort Kent EMS responded to the scene along with Fort Kent police, but attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to blunt force trauma.

Funeral services are planned for Thursday, June 4, at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in St. Francis, Maine.
