A man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after his tractor trailer went off the road Wednesday night in Saint-Quentin, N.B.

Northeast District RCMP responded to the crash on Route 17 at around 9:30 p.m. Police say a tractor trailer hauling peat moss left the road and went in the ditch.

The driver, a man in his 20's from Ontario, was trapped in the vehicle for a short period of time. Police from the Saint-Quentin detachment as well as firefighters from the Saint-Quentin Fire Department were able to free the man from the truck.

The victim was airlifted from the Charlo airport to the hospital in Moncton with serious injuries.

Route 17 in Saint-Quentin was reduced to one lane of traffic for a period of time. The investigation into the exact cause of the crash is continuing.
