
Man Charged after Fleeing on Foot & Assaulting Officer in Maine
A 28-year-old man was arrested Saturday night and charged with assaulting an officer after trying to break into a vacant residence and fleeing from police in Rockland.
Man Faces Multiple Charges
Lucas Ross was charged with Refusing to Submit to Arrest or Detention and Felony Assault on an Officer.
911 Call for Disorderly Male Trying to Break into Residence
The Rockland Police Department responded to a call for a disorderly male who was attempting to break into a vacant property around 10:30 pm.
Refused to Stop for Police and Fled on Foot
Ross was located after officers spoke to witnesses. He refused to stop for police and fled on foot. One officer caught up to him and tried to place him under arrest.
Officer Kneed in the Head During Struggle with Suspect
Ross “continued to fight and struggle with the officer, refusing to comply with commands,” said Rockland PD. “During the fight, Ross kneed the officer in the head.”
Arresting Officer Unable to Communicate with Other Officers
“Due to the physical nature of the struggle, along with equipment malfunctions, responding back up officers were unable to communicate with the officer engaged in the fight," said Rockland Police.
Back Up Officers Helped Arrest Suspect
A witness called 911 and gave police the location of the struggle. Back up officers were able to respond to the location and help control Ross and arrest him.
Taken to County Jail and Active Investigation
Ross was transported to the Knox County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
