The cost of owning an all-terrain vehicle in Maine could soon be going up, as a bill to increase annual fees by $5 has received final House approval and is on its way to becoming a law.

Earlier this week, a bill was passed that would increase the annual ATV fee in Maine to $38, with the additional $5 to be put in the ATV Recreational Management Fund for use in developing trails as well as organizing groups.

The bill, which was sponsored by Representative Sheryl Briggs, was submitted on behalf of ATV Maine in hopes of benefiting the state’s ATV clubs and other off road enthusiasts.
