Corporal Chuck Michaud responded to the crash just before 8 p.m. The investigation showed that 29-year-old Ryan Lowell of Limestone was traveling south on Route 161 when he lost control of a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Lowell told police he had been trying to light a cigarette when he dropped his lighter and became distracted attempting to locate it. He swerved into the northbound lane, over-corrected, and then drove off a steep embankment. The truck flipped end over end, crashed through several trees, and came to rest on its roof in a field.
