In a statement shared to her social media, Governor Janet Mills said she’s grateful for the opportunity to campaign across Maine.
Highlighting the support she received from people in our state, she reflected on her long record of public service. Mills also pointed to accomplishments like expanding health care, funding education, and protecting reproductive rights, while arguing that those efforts have been hindered by what she described as a Republican administration out of touch with science and everyday families.

She said she entered the Senate race because she believed Mainers were getting a bad deal from Washington and that President Trump was putting the country at risk.
Continuing in the statement, she added that she still holds those views while officially suspending her campaign, citing a lack of financial resources despite her stated commitment and experience.
Mills closed her statement by praising Maine people for their kindness, integrity, and compassion, while making it clear she is stepping back from active campaigning but not from serving the state.
She emphasized that she will continue fighting for Mainers as governor in the coming months and looks forward to connecting with them across the state, concluding that she is stepping back from campaigning with unending love, admiration, and hope for the people of Maine, whose integrity and humility are matched only by their kindness, generosity, and compassion.

And there you have it! Janet Mills cited financial resources as the reason for suspending her campaign, exiting the Democratic primary race.
