
Human Remains Found after Fire Engulfs Home in Maine
Human remains were found Sunday night after a fire destroyed a home in Meddybemps.
Adult Human Remains Found Inside Home after Fire
“Investigators arrived on scene and located the remains of an adult inside the home at approximately 8:51 pm,” said Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.
Remains to be Examined for Cause of Death and Identity to be Determined
The remains were transported to a local funeral home. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was examining the remains to determine the cause of death and confirm the identity of the victim.
Home Fully Engulfed and Car in Driveway on Fire
The State Fire Marshal’s Office said the residence at 624 Maine Street was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived on the scene. The fire had also spread to a nearby vehicle in the driveway.
Fire Chief Reported the Homeowner May be Inside
“The local fire chief reported that there was a strong possibility the homeowner was still inside,” according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Six Fire Departments and Four Fire Marshals Responded to the Scene
More than six departments responded to the fire call. Four Fire Marshal investigators were on the scene.
State Fire Officials Returned to Site Monday
The fire remains under investigation as more fire officials were at the site on Monday to continue their examination.
