Honk Your Horn or Flash Your Lights When Stuck Behind Someone at a Green Light in New England?
Back Story:
This morning I was driving to work at around 5:00 AM. I came to my first red light which quickly turned to green...but I did not drive.
The car in front of me was either still asleep, texting, or just not realizing it had gone green. No worries - happens to EVERYONE.
Instead of beeping (like people normally do), I decided to flash my lights. I figured it was way too early to beep, even if I did the gentle "beep beep" not the lay-on horn beep.
The person in front of me drove on, and I went my merry way.
The question: Should you honk your horn or flash your lights when stuck behind someone at a green light?
I host the morning show on 97.5 WOKQ with my co-host, Kira. Kira said I was out of my mind for flashing. That flashing was MORE invasive and ruder than beeping.
I was appalled. No way, right?
The answer:
Flashing your lights is a better option than beeping.
We took this question to the people of New England. About 20% of the people who called, messaged, etc. were a fan of beeping over-honking.
The other 80% were in favor of people flashing their lights to remind someone to go at a green light.
Case closed - flashes over honks people.
