Temperatures across northern Maine were approaching 90 degrees on Monday, capping a hotter than usual month of June.

The National Weather Service Office in Caribou shows the average temperature for the month was about 2 degrees above normal.   High temperatures in Caribou hit 75 degrees or higher for half the days in June, with overnight lows dipping below 50 only a half-dozen times.  Rainfall was also slightly below normal for June.

Forecasters say the heat wave will continue at least through Wednesday with highs near 90. More comfortable temperatures are expected by the 4th of July.
