Always wanted to try ice fishing, but didn't want to pay the licensing fee in case you didn't like it? Good news!

The Free Family Fishing Days in Maine will take place on Saturday and Sunday, February 15th and 16th.

You're probably thinking, there has got to be a catch, right? Wrong! According to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, on these days, any person, except those whose license has been suspended or revoked, may fish without a license. All other laws and regulations apply on these days.

Maine has nearly 6,000 lakes and ponds over one acre in size and almost 32,000 miles of rivers and streams, so there are plenty of options out there.

Why not take the kids and make a day of it? I remember going ice fishing with my Dad every year when I was a kid. We would go spend the day on Grand Lake in Danforth for some great fishing. Memories I still cherish today. Why not make some memories with your kiddos?

Happy fishing!
