Former University of Maine standout Spencer Abbott will be heading back to the NHL after he was recalled from the Rockford Ice Hogs of the AHL Wednesday.

Abbott had a share of the Hogs team lead in points with eight goals and 13 assists in the first 30 games of the year.  The forward has logged just one lone game in the NHL, playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2013-14 season.

The Hamilton, Ontario native played with UMaine from 2008 until 2012 and had 142 points during his tenure with the Black Bears.  Abbott also won a championship playing overseas last season in Sweden with Frolunda HC.  He'll join former Black Bear Scott Darling as well with Chicago.

The Blackhawks are 23-12-5 on the season and currently in first place in the Central division.
