Caribou, Maine native and astronaut Jessica Meir is going back to the International Space Station.
Meir will be the Spacecraft Commander Pilot for Her Second Time in Space
She will be the spacecraft commander pilot in a long-duration science expedition launching in February. It’s her second time in space.
Goal is to Prepare Manned Missions to the Moon and Mars
Meir will be one of four astronauts heading to the ISS with the mission goal to prepare manned missions to the moon and Mars. They plan to be in orbit for eight months.
Spent Seven Months in Space on Her First Mission
Meir spent seven months or 205 days at the International Space from September 2019 to April 2020.
She was Part of the First All-Female Spacewalk in 2019
She was part of the historic first all-female spacewalks with Christina Koch in October 2019.
Preparing for the Mission and Training Two New Astronauts in the Process
Meir said she is familiar with the logistics of space travel and is focused on the preparation. She is assisting two new astronauts in the training process and getting ready for the mission.
Selected as Astronaut in 2013 and Had a Daughter in 2023
Meir was selected to be a NASA astronaut in 2013. Her daughter was born in 2023.
