It's that time of the year again when Washburn and Presque Isle Rotarians team up for the Aroostook River Fun Run, set to take place on May 18, 2013. Proceeds this year will benefit area Girl Scouts who assist as volunteers on race day.

Registration takes place at Washburn's Thomas Brewer Park at 8:00am with the competition set for 10:00am and ending 55 to 90 minutes later at the Fish and Game Club in Presque Isle with lunch and awards. There will be a shuttle to bring racers back to their cars in Washburn.

Before the Fun Run begins, an instructional clinic will be offered for beginners at the Washburn boat landing. The clinic starts at 10:30am and should last for about an hour.

Keep your eyes peeled for wild life as you make your way from Washburn to Presque Isle. Keith Brown, a Washburn Rotarian, says "…you could probably travel the river 10 times and never take the same route twice."

Winners will be declared by Rotarians managing the finish line of the race. Those participating will have the chance to be awarded miniature wooden paddle trophies or an Old Town kayak donated by the clubs and other sponsors.

Entry fee is $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens and $10 for kids. The first 75 entrants will receive a Fun Run T-shirt.
