FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, recently announced $83.27 million in direct assistance grants.

364 fire departments nationwide were awarded grant money through the agency’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program, of which 6 were from Maine, including one department from Aroostook County

The Allagash Fire Department will receive $75,669.  The grant will be used to purchase fourteen sets of structural firefighting protective gear, three mobile radios, six portable radios, and fourteen pagers for Allagash’s firefighters.

Other Maine fire departments that received a piece of the $83 million include Howland, Yarmouth, Waterville, Standish and Strong.

The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations.
