If you’re looking for a peaceful place, Aroostook County has some of the quietest spots in Maine. It’s the biggest county this side of the Mississippi with woods, rural communities and farm fields.

Winter in Northern Maine

Winter is especially serene in some areas of northern Maine. You can get away from everything and everybody. All you hear is the sound of nature with hardly anyone around.

Where are some of these locations? The populated areas of the County are remote, but if you want to really get away, there are places to go.

Allagash

The Allagash is one of the most remote and tranquil spots. It is huge with 3.5 million acres of land. It’s real wilderness in some areas.

Allagash Waterway

The views are amazing along the 92 mile Allagash Waterway. Birds and animals of all types are all you see and hear. It’s one of the quietest spots in Maine.

National Wild and Scenic River System

The Allagash is the place to go fishing, camping, canoeing, kayaking and snowmobiling in the winter. It is part of the National Wild and Scenic River System. Truly one of the quietest spots.

Million Dollar View

Another place to get away and see the scenery is the Million Dollar View on Route 1 in Weston that overlooks Grand Lake.

Mount Katahdin, Peekaboo Mountain and New Brunswick, Canada are in clear view. It’s a vast area to behold.

There’s very little traffic with the incredible landscape. The only sounds you hear are wildlife and nature.
