2 Women Pinned by Vehicles in Maine on Monday, 1 Died, 1 Was Hurt

Two women in Southern Maine on Monday were pinned by vehicles, in separate communities. One woman died while the other is expected to survive.

Where Was the First Crash?

The first of the two incidents happened just after 3:00 Monday afternoon. Yarmouth Police and Fire Department personnel were called to the parking lot outside Hannaford on Route 1 for a multi-vehicle crash with a pedestrian pinned between two vehicles. An investigation into the circumstances determined that a woman driving a GMC Terrain had lost control of her vehicle in the parking lot. Her SUV traveled over a granite curb or median, hit a shopping cart corral, and then hit three parked vehicles.

Another woman who was loading groceries into her vehicle became trapped in between cars that had been hit. Yarmouth Fire/Rescue personnel used the Jaws of Life to separate the vehicles and got the woman out. She was transported to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery. No one else was hurt in the incident.

Have Police Released the Name of the Deceased?

A Massachusetts woman died as the result of the second incident, which happened just after 8:00 Monday night on Long Island. She has been identified as Alyssa Fluet of Methuen, Massachusetts.

What Happened?

Members of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office responded to 1106 Island Avenue, along with Long Island Fire/Rescue for a report of a motor vehicle crash. When they arrived, they found a 21-year-old woman who was pinned between two vehicles and had died of her injuries.

Officials say that it appears a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck had started to roll from its parked position. When the victim saw it, she attempted to stop the truck from moving and was pinned when it struck a 2004 Ford Ranger. No one was inside either vehicle.

Both incidents remain under investigation.
