An announcement came from Senators Susan Collins and Angus King about USM receiving $263,938 for Veteran's Upward Bound Program.

The monies were received through the U.S. Department of Education's Veteran's Upward Bound Program and it's the first time that Maine has received this grant.

The Upward Bound Program is designed to help veterans, who are the first in their family to attend college and to help them develop the skills necessary to succeed in postsecondary education programs.

The University of Southern Maine's Veterans Upward Bound Program is set to serve roughly 125 low-income, first-generation veterans per year from across the state of Maine.
