A little bit of Maine is on the way to service men and women around the U.S. and the world.

Three hundred Christmas trees were shipped out Monday from Piper Mountain Christmas Tree Farm in Newburgh as part of the Trees for Troops program. WABI reports veterans representing nearly every branch of the military were on hand to help load up the truck.

The shipment of trees is destined for a Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort in South Carolina and will be distributed from there.

Nationally, Trees for Troops delivers about 18,000 trees to military families and service members each year.

Meanwhile, the Wreaths Across America convoy will be sent off on its annual pilgrimage to Arlington National Cemetery this Sunday, December 8.
