Trailer Catches Fire on I-95 in Sidney, Maine [PHOTOS]
A trailer caught fire and burst into flames on I-95 Wednesday morning, shutting down both southbound lanes in Sidney.
A truck was hauling household items in the trailer when the fire started around 7 a.m. The fire was doused by the Waterville and Sidney Fire Departments, said Stephen McCausland, Public Safety Spokesman.
45-year-old Curt Hopkins from Pittsfield detached the truck from the 14 foot trailer after pulling into the breakdown lane near the construction of the Sidney-Waterville exit, said McCausland. A passerby alerted Hopkins to the fire.
Traffic was disrupted for an hour and there were no reported injuries, said McCausland. The trailer and the items were destroyed.
State Police Corporal Rick Moody suspected the fire may have started from a mechanical problem in the trailer’s axle.
