One of the great things about living in New England is how many amazing amusement parks we have.

No matter where you live in New England, you are rarely more than an hour's drive from a great amusement park.  Canobie Lake Park, Santa's Village, Palace Playland, Aquaboggan, and Funtown Splashtown USA, for example.

Of course, the OG New England amusement park is Story Land in Glen, New Hampshire.

A Brief History of New Hampshire's Story Land

According to the Story Land website, the story of the park started with a knock on a door in Germany.  Bob and Ruth Morrell, a North Conway, New Hampshire couple living abroad during Bob’s military service, weren’t expecting visitors.

On the other side stood Frau Edith Von Arps, carrying handmade dolls inspired by classic fairy tales.  What began as a simple sale turned into friendship and, eventually, a spark of imagination.

Before returning home, the Morrells bought dozens of her dolls and embraced her idea: build a village around them.  In 1954, they purchased a modest piece of land in Glen and brought that vision to life.  With a handful of colorful buildings and storybook characters, Story Land was born.

Through economic ups and downs, the park grew with new rides, attractions, and experiences designed for young families.  Generations later, it remains a place where kids laugh, parents reminisce, and the magic of storytelling still fills the air.
