A messy mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected to move into northern Maine late Tuesday and continue into the day on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service Office in Caribou has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Aroostook County from 8 p.m.Tuesday until 11 a.m. Wednesday. Forecasters say snow will likely start in the Bangor area Tuesday morning and slowly spread northward through the day.

Warmer air will move in late Tuesday night, changing the snow to sleet and eventually freezing rain from south to north. At this time, forecasters say it appears the mixed precipitation line will get as far north as Caribou by Wednesday morning.

Total snow accumulations are expected to range from 4-7 inches across the County with the highest totals likely in the north. A glaze of ice is also expected, especially south of Presque Isle.

We'll keep you up-to-date with the latest details as this storm system approaches.
