The 38-year-old Marquis was the subject of an extensive search for the past week in connection with the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, 31-year-old Amy Theriault. Witnesses said Theriault was killed in her home on Main Street in St. Francis last Saturday morning.

Marquis was found around 8 a.m. sitting at the base of a tree about three miles into the woods near the St. Francis dump on Sunset Drive, just off Route 161, according to a press release from Maine State Police.

Searchers were led to the spot by a bloodhound from the Strafford County, New Hampshire Sheriff’s Office, which joined the search Friday morning. The bloodhound, named “ Daisy Mae” picked up a scent about 90 minutes earlier.

The dog's handler - Deputy Keith MacKenzie - and two members of the State Police tactical team took Marquis into custody. He was arrested at gunpoint and surrendered without incident. Also seized was a hunting rifle, which was near Marquis at the time of his capture, police say.

Marquis was being processed at the Fort Kent Police Department and will be transported to the Aroostook County Jail.  He is likely to make his first court appearance on Monday.
