Members of the Southeast District RCMP are investigating more than 80 suspicious fires that have occurred since September 2014 in several communities served by the Richibucto, Bouctouche and Elsipogtog detachments of the RCMP.

All of these fires were determined to have been deliberately set. About half of the fires have targeted abandoned or vacant residences, cottages, trailers and vehicles, and have happened at night. The remaining fires have involved other structures and properties, such as businesses and inhabited residences that were not occupied at the time of the fires. No injuries have been reported in connection with the fires.

We are looking at these fires individually and as a whole, and considering all possibilities in our investigations.

"We want residents to know that the RCMP is committed to identifying those responsible for these fires," said Sgt. Patrick Tardif, of the Richibucto RCMP. We also need the public's help as residents are the eyes and ears of their communities and play a very important role in helping to solve crime."

Police are asking anyone with information about the fires or those responsible, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact the RCMP at 1-888-506-RCMP (7267). Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), texting TIP212 + your message to 'CRIMES' (274637), or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
