Wednesday, 28-year-old Richard Brackett of Patten, Maine, was driving a white 2000 International tractor trailer that was pulling a loaded chip trailer.  He was driving south on US Highway 1 (Calais Road) in Hodgdon.

Brackett was negotiating a curve and was driving too fast.  The truck went onto the right shoulder which was soft due to recent road work.  The trailer began to tip which caused the truck and trailer to roll onto to its right side, break a utility pole in half, and crashed into a large group of trees. Brackett was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital by Houlton Ambulance for serious but non-life threatening injuries, said police.

Crews from Eastern Maine Electric and Fair Point responded to the scene due to the damage to the pole, electrical transformer, and several wires.

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection responded due to the truck leaking diesel fuel from both fuel tanks, police said.  Maine Department of Transportation rerouted traffic due to US Highway 1 being blocked and closed for several hours for clean up.

The truck was towed by Westerdahl’s Towing and is a complete loss.  The truck was owned by K.R. Lane Logging Inc. of Sherman, Maine.  Corporal Dennis Quint is still investigating this crash.
