As we approach the end of the summer concert season here in Bangor, the Maine Savings Amphitheater continues to host lively outdoor events, making it difficult to accept that autumn has officially begun.

The grand finale of the summer concerts is set for this Friday, featuring the Goo Goo Dolls along with special guests Fitz and The Tantrums. They're bringing their "The Big Night Out Tour" to the Bangor Waterfront at the Maine Savings Amphitheater, providing a fitting conclusion to the extended summer feel on a Friday night.

In the mid-'90s, the Goo Goo Dolls dominated the charts with hits like "Iris," "Name," and "Slide." And while this will be their first time performing at the ‘Maine Savings Amphitheater,’ it's not their inaugural appearance on the Bangor Waterfront.

Their previous visit to our Queen City of the East was on July 30th, 2019, during a co-headlining "Summer Tour 2019" with Train. I attended that show, and if my memory serves me well, it was a fantastic time. The place has changed a lot since then. I was in the lawn area, but even then, every corner had a great view of John Rzeznik and Robby Takac giving an amazing performance.

To refresh my memory on their setlist that night, I referred to Setlist.fm, and here's what they played:

  1. Stay With You
  2. Big Machine
  3. Slide
  4. Rebel Beat
  5. Here Is Gone
  6. Black Balloon
  7. Free of Me
  8. So Alive
  9. Name
  10. Miracle Pill
  11. Bringing On the Light
  12. Over and Over
  13. Better Days
  14. Iris
  15. Broadway

Earlier this summer, Josh Ross, who opened for Nickelback and Brantley Gilbert, covered "Iris." So, IF the Goo Goo Dolls perform it again in Bangor, it'll be a delightful repeat of this summer highlight.

Following their Bangor show, "The Big Night Out Tour" moves on to Gilford, NH, where they'll play at the BankNH Pavilion (formerly Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion, formerly Meadowbrook Pavilion) on Saturday, September 30th.
