They Found WHAT in Their Maine Home’s Attic?!

It is time to get in your attic, basement, your relative's attic, basement, storage room, or wherever old items may have been stashed for years and just take a peek. Did you hear what someone found in the attic of a home in Camden?! Not even a home. A FARMHOUSE!!!

Yeah, You Remember Hearing the Name Rembrandt, but Why is this Significant in Maine?

A random and routine appraisal brought out someone to a private estate in Camden, Maine. Apparently, that's a thing that happens. What usually DOESN'T happen, is discovering a work of art from one of the most prolific artists ever, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, or more popularly referred to as simply, Rembrandt.

Quick lesson on Rembrandt. He was an artist in the 1600's who lived in the Netherlands and died, ironically, poor, in 1669. I say ironically, because his works go for quite a bit these days as did this one found in Camden.

How the HECK Does a Rembrandt Show up in Maine?

That is a fair question. After a little research from the company that recently auctioned off the painting, it was previously owned by a gentleman who loaned the painting to a museum in Philadelphia in 1970. This gentleman passed away in 1970. We can only assume, that the painting was returned, and a family member must have just stored this "Portrait of Girl" in the attic of the farmhouse to one day be discovered in 2024.

I'm going to share a painful truth right now. I would have thrown this painting away. I know. My ignorance even makes my own stomach churn.

The Painting That Was Discovered in Maine Went to Auction

Long story short, someone wealthy in Europe paid over a million dollars for it at an auction here in Maine, and history was made. So, check your attics. Check your basements. Throw nothing away ... ever. You just never know how much that silly little picture, or other trinket, might be worth.
