'Ready to Eat' Sushi Recalled In Maine

The Food and Drug Administration are making the public aware of a voluntary recall of Fuji Food Products. The products in particular are ready to eat sushi food items known as brand items 'Trader Joe's' or 'Okami' that are carried by various food chains across the East Coast and Upper Midwest, including Hannaford grocery stores throughout Maine.

According to the FDA, Listeria (L. monocytogenes) is "a species of pathogenic (disease-causing) bacteria that can be found in moist environments, soil, water, decaying vegetation and animals, and can survive and even grow under refrigeration and other food preservation measures."

Symptoms of listeria include fever, diarrhea, vomiting, muscle aches and nausea.

Products affected the following areas: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and Wisconsin and was sold at 7 Eleven, Walgreens, Food Lion, Hannaford, Trader Joe’s, Giant Eagle Supermarkets, Porkys, Bozzutos, Supreme Lobster and Superior Foods.
