Seven fines of $172.50 were handed out to drivers for using a handheld electronic device while driving during the operation that took place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Drivers who are distracted behind the wheel place themselves and other motorists in danger as they are at higher risk for being involved in a crash.

Cst. Derek Black said, "Drivers need to pull over when using their cell phones, or have a hands-free device installed in their vehicle. They need to be able to react quickly and must pay full attention to the roadway and their surroundings at all times."

Stay safe out there!
