New Brunswick has approximately 550 kilometres of coastline and numerous remote airstrips. Criminal activity by individuals or organized crime groups such as smuggling of drugs, contraband tobacco, or human trafficking can take place with little or no public attention, said police.

The public is asked to pay attention to boats operating at odd times or without proper lights and markings, boats of foreign registry in remote or secluded areas, and small vessels hovering around larger vessels, police said.

Indications around remote airstrips would include aircraft landing after hours or without proper lighting, aircraft with covered windows or not displaying proper markings, according to police.

The RCMP encourages everyone to play a role in keeping our province safe and to report all suspicious activity.

If you have any information on this illegal activity and wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers toll free at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), texting TIP212 + your message to 'CRIMES' (274637), or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest.
